“Trey to me is a very, very talented cellist, what is even more important is he is a very smart person. His way of approaching music for me is very simple and very fresh. He has a technical facility but he is always looking for some message in his playing and that for me is very important.”
Luis Claret, Renowned Cellist & Jury Member

Season Opening with Neue Westfalen Symphonie

A special guest soloist for the season opening concert with the Neue Westfalen Symphonie, Trey collaborated with maestro Heiko Mathias Förster, artistic director of the orchestra, performing Dvorak Cello Concerto and Rossini's Une Larme in the beautiful castle of North Rhine Westphailia in Germany. Trey’s outstanding performance at his debut with the orchestra led to immediate re-invitation for the following season by maestro Förster: “I like his sound and emotion; we have the same level in our feelings about music, and I hope we can perform many more concerts with Trey.”

Resounding Success at the Royal Concertgebouw

Trey received critical acclaim from audience and critics at the Royal Concertgebouw Hall. The sold out performance series featured Trey performing Strauss - Don Quixote (for Cello Solo & Orchestra) with the Netherland Philharmonic conducted by maestro Jun Markl. The North Holland Daily (Het Noordhollands Dagblad) hailed Trey "a Star Musician..... As a soloist, Lee is imposing and extremely impressive, who makes use of the entire expressive range of his part and conveys an eloquent continuous dialogue with the music and the orchestra.”

A Historic Concert at the 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong Turnover

On July 3, 2007, cellist Trey Lee performed at the historical concert for the celebration of 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong Turnover:

“In the Beethoven Triple Concerto, the star trio showed in no small way why they are the pride of Hong Kong. Li Chuanyun’s incisive violin attack, Trey Lee’s delicate cello singing, and Colleen Lee’s solid piano line, plus the engaging China Philharmonic, contributed to what would become a classic performance for years to come. The sheer joy in music-making among the three, juxtaposing between solo and chamber voices, turned the ingenious work into a platform for virtuosic display.”

Oliver Chou
ampost, August 2007

“Although Hong Kong born pianist Colleen Lee, cellist Trey Lee, and violinist Chuanyun Li are not related in anyway (even though they share the same last name), their performed the Beethoven Triple Concerto flawlessly as if all three soloists can breath in between each notes collectively, regardless whether they play alone, in duo, trio or with the orchestra.”
